Workshops:
Play Analysis Based in Conflict
Cal has taught language arts teachers, actors, designers and directors an analysis process that is reflected in his and Scott Walters's co-authored book, Introduction to Play Analysis (McGraw-Hill). A play analysis workshop will emphasize the importance of understanding a play's central conflict and how all elements of the play relate to the conflict -- providing teachers and students with a tool, a system, for understanding and interpreting a play.
A workshop on play analysis can be designed to suit the needs of varied groups. English teachers will find the emphasis on understanding a play's conflict useful in guiding students to read plays carefully for theatrical information -- the information that actors, designers and directors use in preparing a play for performance.
